Let's Play Confuse the Consumer!

What's up with the stores in Regina? I am I the only one who has noticed that the various chain stores never have the same things in stock, or better yet the prices are different?

So there I was buying metal corner bead for a drywall project I'm doing for an old friend in the north end Home Depot off of Pasqua Street. They don't have any, "no longer carrying it" but they have this nifty adhesive backconfuseded thing you peel and stick to the wall. Now perhaps I'm just getting old and the drywalling technologies have changed...wait a minute I bought some yesterday in the Home Depot on the east side. Now I'm driving across the city to get two pieces of metal corner bead.

I ain't bad mouthing Home Depot here I have similar issues with Wal-Mart and their pricing within the city. Since I am just plain cheap, my Jewish and Scottish friends all love having me around because I blow those stereotypes right out of the water. Anyway back to my Wal-Mart tale. I have come to notice that the price for a litre of 10% / half & half cream can vary from $1.98 to $3.27 on a single day. Yeah I bought some at the east side location, then could what I really came for and was told to head up to the north end location, two blocks from Home Depot, and the cream was $1.29 cheaper per litre. Out to the car I went, returned my two litres I bought cross town and then offered to buy them back at $1.98... tah dah almost 3 bucks in my pocket. I told you I was cheap.

What's the reason for this blog entry? Well I just wanted to see if anyone else was on the ball out there and noticed this. I mean do these big chains think we are stupid? Smaller stores sure might price based on location and the fact that the distributor charges more for one location because they are further out and sell less milk, or whatever. Still this is Wal-Mart and Home Depot I'm talking about not Brandee's Corner Stores. Dollarama can get it right and their a chain store...yep it's the cheap thing creeping in.

Oh well I guess I should chalk it up to some weird conspiracy between the oil companies and the major chains getting me to drive all over the place, or maybe the tire companies.
